It is common practice among top bar hive beekeepers to leave honey in the
hive over winter and to harvest the excess in the spring. This ensures
that
the bees don\'t run out. There is no reason why you could not do that in a
standard hive: the bees will simply work their way vertically up the comb.


Crystallization time depends on temperature and the source of the honey:
OSR and ivy are about the quickest to go, but this is not a problem for
the
bees - only the beekeeper!
