Wrong.
Ethanol can be made from weeds and straw.. doesn't have to be
foodstuffs.
There is a difference between what it "can be made from" and what it is
made
from. Besides, land is also a finite resource, so you are trading one
finite resource (oil) for another finite resource.
And... Biodiesel can be made from rapeseed and other zero cultivation
seed on very poor (non-agricultural) soils.
Rapeseed is grown for the production of animal feed, vegetable oil for
human
consumption, and biodiesel. More Rapeseed used to produce ethanol, means
less is used to produce animal feed and vegetable oil. And the three are
in
competition with each other. So, the producer of Rateseed, will tend to
sell their product to the producer who will pay the most for their output.
As a result, it becomes a classic supply and demand issue.
Bottom line is that anything that keeps dollars inside the US is worth
doing - instead of sending our wealth overseas to infidel enemies.
Fuel will be burned anyway.. might as well make it US fuel.
Another classic problem. At what price is the cost worth the benefit.
