I see Farmers Weekly is running a piece in their news section about
the advertising run by the various levy boards
There is much criticism. It is well founded.
The advertising is worse than useless: it is extremely damaging to
British Agriculture
It makes the levy boards look the complete amateurs they are and
farmers weak for allowing it in their name.
Is is hard to take anyone claiming to be a businessman and having
anything to do with such rubbish seriously.
At first, years ago, seeing the way they promoted business in the
country, I was simply amazed, that turned to horror, then finding it
to be funded by a levy, contempt.
Finally, at the very last, sorrow for the untold damage done by
throwing such wealth at the feet of fools to waste.
Facing this, no wonder Britain's supermarkets are the most profitable
in the world. It must be like taking candy from a baby, dealing with
the levy boards
The average supermarket buyer, PR tottie and advertising consultant
must echo in their hearts the excuse of Clive of India at his
impeachment;
'By God, Mr Chairman, at this moment I stand astonished at my own
moderation'.
Anyway, to the many farmers that seem to share my views - do something
about it!
