No MRSA found in British pigs?

by Pat Gardiner <pat.gardiner@[EMAIL PROTECTED] > Jun 28, 2008 at 10:15 AM

Pat's Note: This very strange re****t appeared on Pig World overnight.
This is basically the National Pig Association since they stopped
their own news and linked to Pig World earlier this year.

I saw no such re****t previopusly as far as I can recall and as a
fairly close watcher with copies of pretty well every page every day
for a decade wonder when it was published and for how long available.
The source of the information may be clearer on any earlier re****t.

Pages that have anything to do with British pigs go up and down with
astoni****ng speed at times.

No source is given for this amazing and wonderful news, if true.

It can't be Defra. In some places they say they are not testing the
pigs, in others that they are but won't be giving any results until
the end of the year.

In any case, the news is clearly price sensitive and if leaked from
Defra would need some explaining.

From the wording, we don't know how many pigs were tested, indeed if
any pigs were tested.

Knowing Defra they probably deliberately targeted a small number of
pigs that they thought were clean and faked all the results. They
probably went to Scuddamore's famous "hobby farmers" homes as being
soft prey with well cared for pigs.

It looks very much as if Britain's bent vets have set up Pig World to
publish incorrect information. This is a serious human health issue
with human lives at stake, and obviously will have to be
investigated, We can't have unsubstantiated rumours and gossip
published as fact, however much Britain's bent government vets
encourage it.

The migrant workers, usually North Europeans are employed by pig
farmers more often than not to allow them time to attend to other
activities like the myriad of interlinked organisations, committees
and quangos that run the industry.

I have no doubt we will hear from the industry, who I notice have
suddenly taken an increased interest in the US and their ****k ex****ts
to Britain. Now the Americans have admitted to having MRSA in pigs
and ****k.....surely Defra are not going to try to blame the Americans?

We did hear yesterday, unofficially too, that they have removed their
nuclear weapons from Suffolk, but I dare say they could manage the odd
aircraft carrier up the Humber.

No MRSA found in British pigs

As re****ted on this page recently, first quarter results from a
Europe-wide probe has not uncovered MRSA in United Kingdom pigs.
Nevertheless there is a potential issue of migrant workers bringing it
onto pig farms. The Defra antimicrobial resistance committee will
therefore ask the Pig Veterinary Society to provide advice to pig
producers so they can ensure their biosecurity protocols consider
MRSA. The American Society of Microbiology is planning to hold an MRSA
conference in Britain next year, which will be followed by a one-day
seminar for vet and health practitioners. — Zoe Davies, NPA.
